Traveller Guidelines for The Royal Cremation

Tourists visiting Bangkok, Thailand are advised to take note that the Royal Cremation for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej will take place on 25 – 29 October, 2017.

  • The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha will be closed from 1 – 29 October, 2017.
  • Tourist attractions across Thailand will be opened as usual. Transport, banks, hospitals and other public services will also operate as usual.
  • To facilitate visitors to the Royal Cremation, public transport will be offering free or additional services from 25 – 27 October.
  • Due to the large amount of people, tourists may need to reconfirm with agents, accommodation and other transport providers as well as check local media regularly for updates on guidelines.
  • Many Thais will wear black and dark colours during this period. Tourists are not required to follow, but are advised to wear respectful clothing in public.
