Just a stone’s throw from Notre Dame Cathedral, the independent bookstore Shakespeare and Company is now one of Paris’ must see spots, whether you’re a bibliophile or not. Located at ‘Kilometer Zero’ where all Parisian roads begin, this small bookshop was originally named ‘Le Mistral’ and provided English language books in the city of lights. The name was changed to Shakespeare and Company on April 1964 in honour of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birth and in tribute to the original Shakespeare and Company created by Sylvia Beach in 1919.
